4 Tips to Improve Pitching Speed

The pitcher is one of the most important positions on a baseball team. If you don’t have a good pitching staff full of skilled individuals, it won’t matter how well your team hits or scores runs, you’re destined to have a losing ball club. Having a skilled pitcher who can throw a variety of pitches with good velocity is what will take any baseball team to the next level. Speed is a crucial ingredient in what makes an excellent pitcher. It’s important that pitchers make sure they constantly work to improve pitching speed and technique so that they can stay sharp and focused during the game.
There are a few different ways for a pitcher to improve pitching speed. One of the most effective methods to increasing your velocity is to apply direct force to the back of the ball. In order to get the maximum amount of velocity possible, a pitcher needs to make sure that he is firing the ball with his pitching elbow down and around toward first base. A lot of coaches disagree with this particular method of pitching because of their attachment to the high cocked arm position that is common in baseball. This method also helps to train a player to stay behind the ball and aids him in reaching full extension with his elbow angle staying below ninety degrees.
Another important technique to help improve pitching speed is to have a good solid push and lead leg stability. One of the key aspects of pitching with a high velocity is the strength and stability of a pitcher’s lower half of the body. Without good leg drive, the pitch thrown just won’t be as quick or as effective, especially against good hitters. There are a number of different exercises you can do to improve your push and lead leg stability. Some of the most beneficial techniques are lunges, squats, leg presses, and calf raises.
The third important tip you can use to improve pitching speed is to improve your torso rotation during acceleration. The torso plays a very important role in getting the arm into the correct pitching position, so it’s very crucial to make sure that these muscles are strong. There are a couple of techniques that are being used by a lot of major league baseball players that are very effective in strengthening the torso. One of the most common is the medicine ball. Players will pick these up and do twists while holding the medicine ball in order to work out their abs. It’s also recommended for pitchers to do a complete abdominal workout as well.
One tip that will not only help improve pitching speed, but will also help you to lengthen your pitching career, is to work on rotator cuff durability and strength. A pitcher’s success on the mound hinges on the condition of his rotator cuff. The rotator cuff is crucial to throwing solid overhand pitches, and is also responsible for putting some of the force on the ball when it’s thrown. One technique used to improve rotator cuff durability and strength is football throws. The footballs should be thrown from 20 yards. It’s also highly recommended to do arm swings as well to help with durability.

The 2008 Twins without Santana

in: Baseball

Your time spent here is greatly appreciated. After you have read the
following article about the upcoming season for the Minnesota Twins and how they will handle all the changes they made during the off season. Please share your thoughts about the 2008 Minnesota Twins with a comment at the end.

Mlb 2008 Season: Will Liriano be Able to Replace Santana?

The Minnesota Twins are going through a tough time due to the loss of part of
their team, including the great Johan Santana, but despite the current situation
the panorama does not look so devastating due to Francisco Liriano who is back
after an elbow surgery, which took place 17 months ago.

Some of his teammates consider that the presence of the left-handed Dominican will ease the exit of the Venezuelan Santana, who won on two occasions the Cy Young trophy and was transferred to the New York Mets.

Presently, Liriano faces the challenge to ensure everyone he is completely healthy and he can repeat the impressive performance he showed when first stepped into the major
leagues in 2006, launching even better than Santana.

The Twins don’t want take risks with Liriano’s health and they are treating him skillfully, recalling the experience of his debut. Francisco Liriano initiated in the major leagues
with a record of 13-3 and 2,16 of effectiveness until he began to feel pain in
the elbow. After some rest his return barely lasted two innings; Liriano was
rushed to the operation room, being submitted to an elbow reconstruction and
losing completely the 2007 season.

The Minnesota Twins stated they feel confident Liriano can recover completely the powerful left-hand; a very valuable piece for the rotation. Although; Liriano affirms his arm is well he thinks he took a lot of percussions to avoid any inconveniences.
The return of the 24-years-old pitcher is of great importance for the Twins. In fact, he hopes to take the team to a higher level within the competitive American League Central
Division.

Santana was not the only opener that left; also Venezuelan Carlos
Silva signed as free agent with Seattle and Matt Garza transferred to Tampa
Bay.Even with Liriano healthy, the openers rotation generates questioning
especially by players of little experience, as is the case of Scott Baker (9-9,
4,26 of effectiveness), Boof Bonser (8-12, 5,10) and Kevin Slowey (4-1, 4.73).
The veteran of the group is the right-handed Livan Hernandez (11-11 and 4,93 of
effectiveness with Arizona). The bullpen Joe Nathan has a record of 4-2, 1,88
and 37 rescues.

As Nathan is in his last year of contract it would not be a
surprise the Twins decide to end his services. Pat Neshek (7-2, 2,94) and Matt
Guerrier (2-4, 2,35) rounded their group of collaborators; they expect that the
Venezuelan Juan Rincon to light up after a year in which his effectiveness rose
to 5,13 with regardless of the 2,91 of the previous year.

The Twins did not only lose pitchers, but also their central gardener Torii Hunter, who signed as a free agent with Los Angeles Angels. But in the exchange they got a player that could be very helpful in the long run left gardener Delmon Young (.288, 13 home
runs and 93 races).

Additionally, if receiver Joe Mauer (.293, 7, 60 in 109
games) manages to avoid wounds and Justin Morneau (.271, 31, 111) avoids the
decrease of his numbers then they would be able to surpass the 718 runs from
last year.

Dodgers Going To China!

in: Baseball

The Dodgers’ trip to China next week will be delayed by a day.
Originally scheduled to make the long flight to Beijing on Monday,
the team will depart from Orlando the following day because the original charter
company contracted by Major League Baseball didn’t receive approval to land in
China before its deadline. Now, the Dodgers will bus to Orlando on Monday and
spend the night before departing on another charter. Team spokesman Josh Rawitch
said the team will arrive about 20 hours later than originally scheduled. “The
only thing it really does is eliminate the off-day there,” manager Joe Torre
said. “It just makes sightseeing a little tighter. We’ll work out here (Monday)
before heading to Orlando.” Rawitch said a visit to
the Great Wall of China still is planned. “I did the Wall in January,” Torre
said, referring to his trip to Beijing for a news conference to discuss the
series.
