Do you have a job where you travel around the country for nine months out of the year? Perhaps at your job they pay you hundreds of thousands of dollars? Maybe you are one of the top tier people at your job and you get paid millions of dollars? Does your job involve staying physically fit and in top shape? No? Neither does mine, it sure does sound like a pretty sweet deal being a major league baseball player though doesn’t it?

I will grant you that making and staying in the major leagues is no easy task and those players had to make a lot of sacrifices to get there. Once you are there though, wow did you get into an elite club! A club that comes with a lot of perks obviously. One of the perks that comes with being a major league baseball player is a little thing called salary arbitration.

Basically this is a way for players that have been in the league for three to six years to advise their team that they deserve a raise in pay.  It’s a system that was set up for that very purpose so player can get a raise in pay. Wow what a system too. Last year the average salary increase for players that filed for arbitration was 120%……let me write that again 120%!! I’m coming up on my third year where I work where do I sign up for some arbitration? You don’t have any plan like that where you work either?

Oh well at this point the way the economy has been I am just grateful to have the job I do have. It’s nice to dream though. Anyway this year is no different than years past as 111 players in Major League Baseball have filed for arbitration this year. Who knows maybe with the struggling economy the average salary increase this year may only be 100%
