Bravo to the MLB Players association and Commissioner Bud Selig on keeping their business in house and getting the deal done to keep the sport of baseball in play for the next five years. The yahoo’s over at the NFL and the NBA could learn a thing or two from the folks that are running Major League Baseball. It was nice to see a major sport handle their stuff with some common sense and civility for once.
It’s pretty embarrassing to watch major sports leagues argue and bicker over millions of dollars when every one involved is already getting paid an incredible amount of money to play a game of all things. I would have to say that the MLB probably learned it’s lesson from the last time they had a work stoppage due to an impasse in contract negotiations.
A couple of things that I really like about the new agreement is the equality of two 15 team leagues with a more balanced schedule and more inter league play. The addition of two more wild card teams is a welcome change as well after all playoff baseball is my favorite part of the season so to get a couple more games in is a big plus in my book. Speaking as a baseball fan of course, how could you not love more playoff baseball? It was also quite refreshing to read that Bud Selig, the owners and the players were in agreement that there needed to be more investing towards the draft after all it’s the draft that is going to produce their super stars of the future. All in all I was quite satisfied with how the MLB has handle this whole new contract thing. What say you webfolk? As a baseball fan were you happy to see the MLB handling their business in house and not going at it in the media like a bunch of spoiled brats like those other sports?
